Desktop
The SOHO final release is based on KDE-4.4.2 desktop. KDE in it’s 4th. big release provides a beautiful desktop and a renovated interface for the Linux operating system. As usual, many applications have been added delivering a complete system ready to use.
Hardware support
Following the line started in the Standard Edition, the VL team included as many drivers as possible, supporting a wide range of wireless devices, Nvidia and Ati cards and webcams.
Multimedia
Almost the trademark, DVD playback is supported out of the box and all the codecs are already included. KDE4 provides an enhanced multimedia experience with a compact set of applications well integrated with the desktop environment like the awarded Amarok.
Office
They included Open Office, the well known office suite that allows the creation of high quality documents in several formats. You can find Koffice, Okular and Scribus in the menu as well.
Internet and Networking
Following a well known tradition, Firefox, Opera and Seamonkey are included with Flash support. Konqueror, Kopete, Ktorrent are also part of the system.
Graphics
The Graphics menu includes the excellent Gimp 2.6 for image editing, Inkscape for vectorial drawing, Okular as viewer and DigiKam for digital cameras.
Package Manager and System administration
Slapt-get and Gslapt makes the installation of extra software easy and painless. You will benefit from the Vector Linux Extra repository to suit all your needs and enhance your computing experience. Gslapt puts Office tools, Games, Networking applications, Command Line tools and more one click away from your computer.
Vasm and VasmCC will make the administration of your system very straight-forward. You can configure your network, mount additional media at boot time, share files with your network using Avahi, Samba or NFS.
