Avira AntiVir

 Choosing an Antivirus for Linux

Avira AntiVir Personal – Free Antivirus is a free antivirus program, designed for home use, excluding commercial applications. It protects your computer against dangerous viruses, worms, Trojans and costly dialers.

Like most such software, AntiVir scans for malicious software and works as a process in the background. Since version 8 engine is equipped with the ability to detect and remove rootkits, the version 9 effectively detects and removes spyware and components, adware, and phishing.

Avira AntiVir automatically checks and installs updates. It also automatically detects the active connection to the Internet. When you download new virus definitions (.vdf – Virus Definition File) it opens a window advertisement suggesting the user to purchase the paid version – Avira AntiVir Premium. However, it is possible to remove this ad by modifying system settings.
