It’s time to see how AbiWord handles with tables.
Here is the screenshot of AbiWord while opening .doc version of the file with table:

Unfortunately in this case there are a lot more issues… In fact the text, that each cell of the table had, did not disappear; we can’t see it because of the cell background color appeared for some obscure reasons.

Here we have even more dramatic situation – there is no table at all; the only thing we have is formatted text.
Despite the fact that AbiWord didn’t manage to perform as nice as OpenOffice did, it still would be pretty decent application for the users who rarely have to use some advanced formatting. That’s why it would be much logical not to compare it with MS Word and OpenOffice Writer, but with Microsoft Wordpad.
