The GNU project (GNU is a recursive acronym for “Gnu’s Not Unix”). Began in 1984 to develop a complete operating system , with the main property to be Free Software .
Variants of the GNU operating system with Linux kernel are widely used. People often mistakenly referred to these systems as “Linux” when it is more accurate and useful call GNU / Linux . There is a developing GNU kernel, called Hurd, who will eventually replace the Linux kernel when it is developed.
